Free Somatic Skills Workshop for Women in Transition

November 13th, 2025 | 6:00-7:15pm | Golden Community Center

If you're navigating a major life transition—exploring your identity, moving through divorce, rediscovering yourself in motherhood, or simply feeling overwhelmed by change—your body is holding the impact.

You might notice:

  • Tension in your chest, shoulders, or jaw that won't release

  • Racing thoughts that keep you up at night

  • Feeling disconnected from yourself

  • Anxiety that shows up physically, even when you "know" everything is okay

  • The sense that you're stuck in your head and can't access what you truly need

This is your nervous system trying to protect you. And while traditional talk therapy can help you understand why you feel this way, somatic work helps you shift how your body responds.

What is This Workshop?

I'm offering a free, hands-on evening workshop where you'll learn practical somatic skills you can use immediately when stress, anxiety, or overwhelm arises.

This isn't a lecture about wellness. It's an experiential workshop where we'll practice together.

You'll learn:

🌿 What somatic therapy is and why it works when talk therapy alone isn't enough

🌿 How your nervous system works (and why it sometimes works against you during transitions)

🌿 Two foundational somatic skills: Grounding and Orienting—simple practices that interrupt the stress response

🌿 Two somatic practices you can use immediately: Perspective-taking and working with "medium stress" so you build capacity for the hard stuff

By the end of the evening, you'll have tangible tools to help regulate your nervous system when life feels overwhelming.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is designed for women navigating transitions, including:

Identity Exploration:

  • Questioning or discovering your sexual orientation later in life

  • "Late bloomer lesbians" navigating coming out in your 30s, 40s, 50s+

  • Career transitions or shifts in how you see yourself

  • Exploring who you are beyond roles you've played

Relationship Transitions:

  • Moving through divorce or separation

  • Healing from a breakup

  • Dating again after a long relationship

  • Navigating co-parenting or changing family dynamics

Motherhood Transitions:

  • Postpartum adjustment and identity shifts

  • "Empty nest" and rediscovering yourself

  • The grief and growth of motherhood changing you

  • Feeling like you've lost yourself in caregiving

Anyone seeking deeper mind-body connection:

  • Feeling stuck despite years of talk therapy

  • Experiencing anxiety or overwhelm that shows up physically

  • Wanting tools to stay grounded during uncertainty

  • Curious about body-based approaches to healing

If you see yourself in any of these experiences, this workshop is for you.

What Makes This Workshop Different?

Most workshops about stress management teach you breathing exercises and send you on your way. This one goes deeper.

We'll explore:

  • Why your body can't tell the difference between imagined threats and real ones (and what to do about it)

  • How to work with your nervous system instead of fighting against it

  • Why practicing with "medium stress" (not your biggest trauma) is the key to building lasting capacity

  • How to shift your physical response to stress through perspective and presence

And most importantly: We'll practice together. You won't just learn about these skills—you'll actually experience them in your body during the workshop.

Why Somatic Work Matters During Transitions

When you're going through a major life change, your nervous system is constantly scanning for safety. And when your identity, relationships, or sense of self feels unstable, your body interprets that as threat—even when you're not in physical danger.

This is why you might:

  • Feel anxious about a conversation that hasn't happened yet

  • Lie awake at night replaying scenarios

  • Experience physical tension that doesn't match your current circumstances

  • Feel like you're constantly bracing for something

Your body is trying to protect you. But it needs help understanding: "I'm safe right now. I can handle this."

That's what somatic work offers. Not positive thinking or willpower—but actual nervous system regulation that your body can feel and trust.

What You'll Take Home

By the end of this workshop, you'll have:

Two foundational somatic skills (grounding and orienting) you can use anytime, anywhere

Two somatic practices for working with stress, anxiety, and challenging decisions

A deeper understanding of why your body responds the way it does during transitions

Tangible experience of what it feels like when your nervous system shifts from activation to regulation

A community of other women navigating similar transitions

And if you're interested in going deeper, I'll share information about Discovery Sessions—a 90-minute extended intake where you can experience Somatic Experiencing® therapy firsthand and explore whether ongoing work together feels right.

About the Facilitator

I'm Meagan Witt, MA, LCSW, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner. I specialize in supporting women through life's biggest transitions—particularly identity exploration, relationship changes, and motherhood shifts.

I practice Somatic Experiencing® because I've seen how powerful it is when words aren't enough. Your body holds wisdom that your mind can't always access. My work is about helping you reconnect with that wisdom so you can move through transitions with more groundedness, clarity, and courage.

I've been in private practice since 2022, and before that, spent nine years as a school social worker. I'm licensed in Colorado, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Washington DC (in progress). I live in Golden with my family, where you can find me hiking, practicing yoga, and reminding myself to use these very same somatic skills when life gets overwhelming.

Transitions are hard. Your body is holding the weight of uncertainty, change, and all the emotions that come with it.

You don't have to navigate this alone—and you don't have to wait until you're in crisis to get support.

This workshop is a starting point. A place to learn that your body already knows how to heal. Somatic work just helps you access that wisdom.

I'd be honored to practice with you.
